iPhone 4S: Siri Makes iPhone Talk For The First Time
The iPhone 4S, Apple’s newest smartphone was the most anticipated gadget of the year that gained striking momentum preceding its release. But the question that remains is whether the phone lived up to people’s expectations or not.
iPhone 4S received a mixed reaction after its release, it was and wasn’t what people had hoped for. Apple pulled the curtains off from the latest iPhone on Tuesday, an upgrade to iPhone 4 but still identical to the previous look. It’s an evolution of the previous device. The most important of the new features on the 4S, that is catching buzz, is Siri – the iPhone assistant.
Siri is a voice recognition software based on artificial intelligence that understands user’s voice commands in natural language. Your wish is Siri’s command, you can ask Siri to do things by simply talking to it. This intelligent piece of software understands what you are asking for and even talks back. You can ask Siri to make calls, send texts, set reminders, look up addresses, get weather forecasts and much more. Siri can be exceptionally helpful in diverse ways; you just have to hold the home button and speak to it like a normal person and it will do all the processing.
“It’s your intelligent assistant that helps you get things done just by asking,” said Scott Forstall, Apple’s Senior Vice President in charge of all iOS software. For example, during the demonstration, Forstall asked the phone: “Do I need a raincoat today?” The app responded by saying, “It sure looks like rain today.”
This humble phone assistant will learn and get more accurate as you use it. It will figure out your likes and dislikes, adapt to your needs and refine its recommendations accordingly.

Siri is still in beta testing mode as of the launch of iPhone 4S. It is available for English, French, and German speakers. Apple plans to add more languages to Siri later on.
This voice recognition technology already exists on the Android operating system, but experts believe Apple’s integration is more seemless – a hallmark of the company. Forstall called the software “blow away” but whether Siri excites or disappoints the fans remains to be seen as reviews pour in.
